Assessing the 2017 Legislature at the half-way point

Lawmakers are commenting on where things stand as the 2017 session reaches its halfway point. Senate President Jack Whitver says many bills the GOP wants to pass are still alive despite the first funnel deadline this week. Senate Minority Leader Rob Hogg used "nonsense" as the word to describe the policy items Republicans are pursuing. Republicans have already passed changes to Iowa's collective bargaining laws and are looking at voter ID legislation and changes to workers compensation laws.
