Closing education gaps in Ames

The Ames School District is launching a new effort to close achievement and discipline gaps between white and minority students. Associate Superintendent Mandy Ross says those gaps had been narrowing but are widening again and they're trying to figure out why. She says district administrators and teachers have to be ready for conversations that might be uncomfortable. Ross says the school district will work with community groups and experts at Iowa State to devise a strategy to close achievement gaps.
