Ames City Council okays Main St. concert

The Ames City Council Tuesday signed off on requests from the Main Street Cultural District for a concert on Main St. set for the Friday before the Iowa State-Iowa football game in September.  The action comes a week after police chief Chuck Cychosz expressed concern to the council about scheduling an event on what's become an increasingly busy weekend.  Concert organizer Bill Malone says he thinks the committee's gone to great lengths to ensure a safe and successful event. At-Large Council Member Bronwyn Beatty-Hansen joined 1st Ward Council Member Gloria Betcher in voting against the request.  Beatty-Hansen says she can't get past concerns about the date. Organizers expect 1,500 people on Main St. to see the concert.
