Ames aquatic center still partially closed

A portion of the Furman Aquatic Center in Ames remains closed. The entire center was closed Tuesday after a fallen light fixture was discovered by parks and recreation staffers.  According to the center's Facebook page, the “splash pool” is still closed after broken glass from the fallen fixture was removed from the pool deck and basin.  The city says state law required that pool to be drained, cleaned, refilled and the water tested before it can be reopened. The "splash pool" is likely to to be back in use Saturday.  The city says the 50-meter pool and lazy river are open, after a check of all of the aquatic center's light fixtures found them to to be safe.
