Ames pet owner charged in dog's death

An Ames woman is facing a charge of animal neglect causing death for her alleged actions against her own dog.  Police say Sarah McMenamin tried to perform surgery on her dog earlier this month using only a paring knife and tongs.  The dog died as a result of the surgery, which police said came as a result of the woman not being able to afford surgery at an Iowa State University vet clinic. Soon after her arrest, animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, and geckos were seized from McMenamin's home.
