A new year brings new leadership to Ames City Hall. Mayor John Haila was sworn in, along with incumbent At-Large Council Member Amber Corrieri, and 1st Ward Council Member Gloria Betcher. In the new year, Corrieri thinks the council will give final reading approval to a new rental housing code she opposes due to concerns about unintended consequences for property owners and renters. Betcher says she's anxious to see what a new council does with the Campus and Community Commission it created last year. New 3rd Ward Council Member David Martin was sworn in two weeks ago. The Ames City Council's first meeting in 2018 is Tuesday.
