Ames police say drive-by shooting report is false

A months-long Ames police investigation of a supected drive-by shooting near Campustown has determined that...it wasn't. Cmdr. Geoff Huff says investigators got a tip that the December shooting at 504 Stanton Ave. happened when a .22 caliber rifle was mishandled. Huff says Tracy Marie Flores, 36, who was injured in the shooting, and her husband, Rafael Angel Flores, 35, face several misdemeanor charges, including making a false police report. Huff says the suspects are also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor for involving a person under 18 in the false report. They also face unrelated charges of possession of marijuana and paraphenalia discovered when a search warrant was served at the house where the shooting happened.
