Reynolds requests Presidential declaration

Iowa is officially asking for a presidential disaster declaration for five counties damaged by tornadoes last month. Gov. Reynolds signed a letter requesting individual assistance funding for Marshall and Polk counties to help people with housing, personal property, and other expenses. Public assistance funding is requested for Lee, Marion, Marshall, and Van Buren counties to repair roads, bridges, and other infrastructure. The damage resulted from a widespread tornado outbreak July 19th, which included strong twisters in Marshalltown and Pella. Iowa is still waiting for word about an earlier disaster declaration request for 30 counties hit by flooding and severe storms this summer.
