Ames school board hires Middle School principal

The Ames Middle School will have a new principal later this month.  The school board Monday approved the hiring of Yonas Michael as the building's top administrator. He worked in the district for 10 years, most recently as Director of Student Services. For the last two years, Michael has served as a behavior specialist and administrator in Maryland.  He'll officially start at the middle school next Monday. Until then, Ames High Principal Spence Evans, and retired Ames and Gilbert administrator John Kinley will continue to oversee the middle school.  The board also accepted the resignation of middle school principal Dan Fox effective June 30.  The district says Fox will use accrued paid leave and vacation, then continue on administrative leave until June 30.
