Tonight is "National Night Out" in Ames as the police give out school supplies to Ames Students. There will be food, drink, music and games but most of all there is an opportunity for them to meet the areas emergency workers. All too often we are only familiar with the uniform but not the person wearing it. That they have wives and kids like the rest of us but their job is more dangerous and demanding. Being the husband of a retired police sargent I can appreciate the difficulty of being separated from the uniform and appreciated for just being a human being. Even after her retirement many of the folks refer to her as an officer, to me she's a tremendous wife and mother.
