Mel and I talked about this on the air today--why are Republicans waiting for Steve King to quit playing footsie on his decision to run for U.S. Senate? This Iowa Republican story spells out still more notables in the Iowa GOP who are "thinking" about a run for the Senate. From former U.S. Attorney Matt Whittaker, to Iowa Secretary of State Bill Northey, to Secretary of State Matt Schultz, to Red Oak state senator Joni Ernst--all are dancing around a canddacy. What's stopping them? Rep. Steve King (R-IA 4). Kiron's own says he's not rushing into a decision--that his heart has to line up with his head, which all has to line up with statistics that tells him he can raise money and win a statewide race.
Here's the thing--the longer King stays out of the race, the clearer it becomes to me that he won't run. You know what? Who cares? I guarantee you Steve King wouldn't. He told me, on the day Rep. Tom Latham (R-IA 3), took his name out of the race, that his decision to run or not wouldn't swing on Latham's decision one way or another.
To everyone tap dancing around the decision--if you think you have the kind of bold, fresh, smart ideas that would serve Iowa well in the US Senate, why are you waiting for Steve King to make your decision?
