I’m a big DVR guy. I love recording shows and speeding through the commercials. Makes me feel powerful. Also, I can watch an hour long show in, like, 45 minutes. That’s nice. However, it gets a bit tricky in some cases. I also love Twitter, you see, and it’s not unusual for one to spoil the other. For instance, I didn’t get to watch “Mad Men” last night so I probably don’t get half the jokes on Twitter today. Sometimes I need to DVR sporting events that would probably be a lot more fun to watch live while catching all the snide remarks on Twitter about the game. I’ve also had more than few games spoiled for me by seeing the final score while I’m watching (and sometimes before I get a chance to see a minute of action). I once made my girlfriend angry at me by watching the first half of ISU’s football game at TCU last season before she got home to watch it off the DVR. She thought I would wait to watch it with her. So I ended up watching the first half again. That really wasn’t so bad, though. Sometimes when I’m watching a game on DVR I treat it like I’m in a race to catch up with real time, which kind of defeats the purpose, but I can’t help myself. Man, these kinds of dilemmas were a lot easier to avoid but I don’t think I’d trade in my DVR. For anything.
