The 6th-ranked Waukee baseball team swept Ames in a doubleheader Thursday night at Ray Smalling Field by scores of 7-6 and 15-4 in six innings. In game 1, Waukee rattled off a 5-run 2nd inning powered by a home run from Brian Schmeidt and a grand slam by Jordan Niehaus. Ames answered with five of their own thanks to Brian Pierce's 2-run single. In the second game, Ames took an early lead on Alex Brammer's 3-run homer in the 2nd inning. The Warriors rallied with 6 runs in the 3rd behind a 3-run home run by Austin Battaglia. Waukee added 5 more in the 4th thanks to 2-run homers by Colby Siebersma and Zach Sharff. Ames hosts another ranked opponent as 9th-rated Indianola comes to town Friday night.
The Ames high softball team was also swept at the hands of Waukee 6-1 and 15-2.
