Ballard Rallies to Win at State Softball Tourney

The Ballard softball team rallied from a 3-run deficit to beat Mid-Prairie of Wellman 5-4 in the Class 3A state quarterfinals Tuesday in Ft. Dodge. The Bombers scored 3 times in the 6th inning to tie the game. Annie Stolte starte the rally with a solo home run. A couple batters later, Katie Ahrenholtz jacked a 2-run bomb to tie the game. Ballard scored twice more in the top of the 7th when Sydney Fisher's RBI double was followed by a Grace Hall 2-bagger to drive in what proved to be a valuable insurance run when Mid-Prarie scored again in the bottom of the frame. Kenzie Ihle got the win, going all 7 innings, scattering 9 hits, walking 2 batters and striking out 5. The 33-9 Bombers advance to play 36-7 Bondurant-Farrar in the state semifinals Thursday afternoon.
