Ok, so you think you're better than me, better than me huh? Are you paralyzed or so frightened you'll lose control of your motorcycle if you return the arm down greeting I just gave you. Beautiful day for a ride and I took an extended one, feeling full of the goodness that is Mother Nature, letting the wind blow through where my hair used to be. It has long been a custom to lower your left arm down in greeting to a fellow biker going the opposite direction and they would return it. I am sad to say only about 20% of the riders I ran across today returned the traditional greeting. I must admit I may be mistaking their ignorance for arrogance, I also know this shouldn't be expected from the weekend biker who sheds his work a day polo shirt for his leathers and a ragged bandanna to take on the characteristics of a life he wished were everyday. My last word of the day (maybe) is Can-Am riders those are not motorcycles, they are motortricycles. Oh for the days when we were a rarer, more daring breed.

After graduation life became an adventure, including some college, lots of travel and just learning to enjoy life. My education has been diversified to say the least attending several colleges and universities a few courses at a time and ending my formal education at Iowa State.
My occupations have been many, with the last 35 years spent in broadcasting
in one form or another. I have many things I love, my wife Chris, my daughter
Paula and my son Shad. I love also love Ames and Iowa. What I am and what I will
be is always grateful to the people and things that have surrounded my life in
this great part of the country we live in. The are a lot of things I've left out
but I'm sure we'll share more as you continue to visit this site.

IF YOU GET THIS, HELP!
Have snuck this message out with the help of a neighbor who sympathized with my plight. Have been allowed back in the barracks after 6 hours of labor in the camp garden. Commandant Chris kept a watch all the time, even my ploy of not doing it right and the Tom Sawyer fade into how much fun it was did not work. Was allowed a lunch of Asian food, just enough to keep me going. Have just finished a shower, cold water only. Bridge on the River Kwai and Stalag 17 will now appear to be comedies to me. Where's Col. Hogan when I need him. Got to go rumors of me being allowed a Red Cross Package tonight.

HOW DOES OUR GARDEN GROW?
OK, Chris has been inspired and so shall the quest begin as we fight the odds of mother nature and plant tomato's. If there were a law for plant abuse she and I would be spending our lives incarcerated. With the best of intentions we shall prepare the ground and gently place the plants with tender love and hopes of a bountiful harvest. What starts off as the Garden of Eden will end as a plant ceme...tery that would inspire Stephen King to write another book. Thank God our nurturing skills were better with Paula. I now rise in hopes that this is the year of change, that our enthusiasm will continue during the growing season but also content with the knowledge that insects are living things and also deserve to eat and that weeds if properly prepared can be tasty.

DANCE ON!
Having never experienced the thrill of of a dance recital nor had a child who was inclined toward the performing arts I feel I may have missed a life experience but not sure I should be bothered by it. Tis the season and I am hearing the cry of obligatory parents that are torn between the decision of whether to inform their children that they were born with two left feet or to encourage them in the hopes that it may merely be an age defect that eventually will dissipate. I say let them dance, clap, applaud and praise this to shall pass, and any time with your kids is well spent, just don't invite me.

SO THAT'S WHO YOU ARE
I absolutely love getting out of the studio, it's an opportunity to get to meet listeners face to face. While it may be less exciting for them I have talked to so many people over the phone who I consider friends that I have never seen. In studio often times my imagination likes to put faces in front of me so we can have conversations but nothing substitutes for a smile and a handshake or hug. If you ever get the opportunity to come see me please do, it is I who will be humbled and appreciative.

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE THE AMES MAIN STREET FARMERS MARKET!
Is it truly spring, I hope so. I had such a nice time At the Ames Main Street Farmers Market Saturday despite a little cool weather and some strong winds. There was a hearty group of vendors as well as great entertainment and plenty of things to eat but for me that's not the best part, it's the people. Every place I stopped to peruse the goods being sold I found folks that were happy to chat not only about their products but great conversation on the pride they put into them. I also love the friendly environment it creates to catch up with old friends and make some new ones. I encourage you to make it a regular part of your Saturday mornings, it's a wonderful way to start your weekends.
